Family Vacations – Make it an Adventure!

You have two glorious weeks for vacation. This is your chance to really spend some quality time with your family. As you reminisce about the last vacation, you realize you want to avoid the same mistakes: too little time and too much to do, leaving you in dire need of an immediate second vacation to recoup from the first – preferably traveling no further than your own home!

You realize that you didn’t get to spend quality one-on-one time with your children like you were hoping for on your last vacation. Vacations are supposed to be about re-bonding with your family, re-connecting, and re-learning why you like each other so much. Let’s face it, the stress of work, school, and extra-curricular activities can make you easily forget why you decided to raise a family in the first place!

That trip to the theme park was wonderful, but you missed out on talking with your children as they ran around catching all the rides they could. You remember trying to get them to slow down, only to tell them what you had planned next, forgetting to ask them all those questions you envisioned them answering about how well they are truly doing.

This is your year. What kind of vacation can you enjoy, relax with, and have time for conversation? Yelling, “Get back here!” doesn’t count, either.

To achieve your goal of family togetherness, you might consider something more outdoorsy. In an effort to steer you away from memories of kids campouts and insect bites, envision something a little more refined, but active. If you ask me, all vacations are pretty active and adventurous. The setting of your adventure can vary greatly from place to place. If you are looking to spend time with your family, but stay in one location to eliminate the headache of packing and repacking, you have two great options: go on a cruise or go to a resort catering to families.

There are many resorts that have access to many activities. Outdoor adventure family vacation resorts are growing more popular, especially if the facility offers short-term babysitting, allowing mom and dad to get some R, R, & R (rest, relaxation, and a reprieve).

Your kids will go nuts if the resort is close to a lake, river, or ocean has plenty of biking trails, and includes kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, or any activity that helps promote independence. Remember, they’ve been saying it for years, “I can do it myself!” Why not cater to this sense of independence while building confidence and a sense of achievement? Save the rafting, hiking, and canoeing as a family activity, helping you all have time to enjoy each other’s company.

Your safest and easiest choice is to stay at locations near national parks. This not only allows you to see nature’s wonders, but gives access to some of the best outdoor activities available. I recommend that you choose to lodge in hotels vs. camping, especially if you are on a road trip – packing extra gear for the outdoors is not a picnic. There are some locations that provide tents, teepees, or domes for you to rent and stay in if you crave the closeness to the outdoor air.

It may take a little research, but I suggest that you first decide where you want to stay and then coordinate with the hotel some activities to do and make it a package deal. A little preparation on your part will ensure lasting memories with you in the spotlight instead of the destination itself.

Unfortunately, is no way to lower the costs completely. However, when you work with an agent, you will ensure that you are receiving the most competitive prices on the market.

Most agents are eager to work with you and find you the best deal. Agents usually have insider knowledge that you as a civilian won’t. This means that they can find you deals that are not always readily available to the general public. Also, agents can take into account your budget and plan your trip accordingly.

Maybe funds are not the problem, but you just do not know where to start. Traveling the world can be a daunting task. When you have never been to an area, you may not know exactly what to expect. Safety Tips You Should Follow While Traveling

Traveling is one of the most adventurous activities in which you can engage. However just as you would want to remain safe at home, you should adhere to basic safety rules while you are away as well. That way you are able to enjoy your vacation and not need to concern yourself with all the possible negative incidents that can take place while you are away. There is always some risk you must assume when traveling to a location with which you are unfamiliar, so it is best to be prepared and comfortable with what you should do in case of trouble.

Start by planning your destination and preferred activities. In taking that initial step – which you should do regardless of safety considerations – you can then consider where the greatest risks are likely to be. For example, if you are headed to the islands for vacation, you should know that while the beaches are gorgeous and full of fun, they are also dangerous after dark. In tourist areas, there are people who prey on visitors because they seem to be naive and unsuspecting. Since you certainly do not want this to be your fate, by doing your research in advance on the areas you are visiting, you will know where and when not to go.

Second, never travel alone, especially at night. If you are vacationing by yourself this may be difficult, but you should avoid any desolate spots or areas where there is a high crime rate. It is certainly safer, when possible, to travel with even a small crowd. For example, though you might travel alone, find a group of people at your hotel with whom you feel comfortable to head out for some night life. If you do go alone, make sure to leave a detailed itinerary with someone in your family so they know where you are in case something nefarious happens to you.

While traveling, it is a good idea to keep a cellular phone on you at all times so you can call an emergency number if needed. Although 911 is a universal number in the US, it might not be everywhere, so always keep a record on hand of local police station numbers in case of an emergency.

As a last note of caution, hotels can be somewhat dangerous no matter where you stay. So, always keep your door bolt locked, and never open it for anyone you do not know. Store your valuables in your hotel room safe, and don’t leave money lying around even when you are in your room. Vacations can be quite pleasurable, and you want to make sure you keep it that way!

Numerous families would enjoy to travel to a realm with their kids, particularly if it is a magical one. This dream can be fulfilled by making the best of affordable Disney vacations. Disney World area includes more than one park, and there are a lot of other places of interest in the Orlando, Florida locality. Preparing for vacation there require quite some time to check out all the places of interest and finding out which ones are right to enjoy your family. Nearly all of the Disney World travel packages that are offered come with airfare, hotel transfer and admission fees to Disneyland. A couple of them may include some dishes, but only a few come with all dishes unless you take one of the all inclusive Disney vacations.

After pricing all the separate items like airfare, tickets, hotels, rental cars, meals, admission fees and some other things you may desire, it will quickly get apparent that probably the most beneficial deals can be found with one of the packages on affordable Disney vacations. Another thing you have to consider is staying within the resort makes getting to and from Disneyland more comfortable, however even the most beneficial package bargain you can get will be less affordable than remain at any accommodation outside of the main entertainment area.

Often families arrive in Orlando and may find out that making their whole holiday in one park may not be the best option for them. In that case, they can prefer to take in their hired car and visit a couple of the other places of interest near Orlando. Several travelers even would like to try out deep-sea fishing, usually extras like that is not enclosed in any of the Disney travel packages offerings. Additional things must be planned on your own.

Other families don’t prefer booking Disney vacation packages, because they favor to be flexible and to do their own thing, going to Disney World for one or two days throughout their journey. Latest News: Confused With All the Travel Information on the Internet?

There is so much information available on the internet right now regarding travel. There are online travel sites for cruises, hotels, air, trains and any other type of travel. But what is the correct product for you? Is the location of the hotel where you want to be? Is the type of room or cabin the right fit for you? Is that cruise line the one you should be booking? Not all products are created equal nor are the products right for everyone. How do you tell? Contact a travel professional.

Do travel agents exist?

There have been multiple articles, and even the President of the United States, has said travel agents don’t exist or are going away. In a way they are right. Travel agents in the past were just someone who booked a trip for someone who called or came in to the storefront office of a travel agency. Storefront travel agencies are few and far between now a days as most of the “travel agents” have gone home to work. Even the term “travel agent” is going away because what they do now is different than what they did before.

Travel Professionals/Travel Counselors

Travel Agents are now more a counselor and an adviser so they are now called Travel Professionals or Travel Counselor. Even the travel industry is trying to get away from using the term “travel agent”. They no longer just book a trip for someone, they know more than what is available to the traveling client. The travel professionals now are constantly learning, constantly traveling, receiving input from other travel professionals about where they have traveled and are a resource for what is required to travel now a days.

When you use an online travel agency like Expedia, Travelocity, etc. you aren’t able to have someone protect your back. They book the travel for you and then you are pretty much on your own. Say your flight gets cancelled, who is going to book a replacement flight? You are, not them. If you use a travel professional that travel professional will do it. If something goes wrong on your trip, if the room you booked is not like what you thought it would be, who is going to make it right? A travel professional will also check constantly for price drops before final payment and whether a new promotion offered would be more beneficial than what was booked with a deposit. All these things can be addressed before final payment.

A travel professional works with you from the time you first talk to them until you are home safe and sound and any and all problems have been solved or addressed.

It Costs More to Use a Travel Professional

This is not always true. True, some travel professionals charge fees but not all of them do. This is because some vendors, like airlines and some hotels, don’t pay commission or some of the vendors have decreased the amount of commissions paid to the travel professional. In order to make ends meet, some travel professionals charge fees. I charge $50 per person for airline reservations domestically and $100 for airline reservations internationally. I will also charge a fee sometimes for hotels for the same reason or if I am putting the various sections of the trip together myself. If I book a cruise or a tour, I don’t charge a fee as the vendor pays me a commission. Remember, whether you use a travel professional or not the commission is still being paid as it is automatically included in the price from the vendor. So, why not use a travel professional and avoid the hassle and save your time?

The rules for traveling are constantly changing and it is the travel professional who is able to keep their clients on track with them.
